Volunteers
GET INVOLVED
“It takes a village” a village full of amazing people who bring a plethora of assets adn are willing to support one another.
Volunteers must:
- Fill out an application
- Meet with a MVL team member to talk about the program, do a quick safety training
- Complete a background check with HEB ISD
- Minimum age to volunteer is 14 with parent/gardian consent
We ask that volunteers give us notice if they can not attend their session so that we are able to provide the best ratio for students.
We have plenty of opportunities to build relationships with students, other mentors, the MVL Team and to have fun!
MORE ABOUT GETTING INVOLVED
“You must connect, before you direct.”
Our volunteer mentors meet with students weekly to encourage and challenge each other to grow as learners. By meeting together with adults, young people and students, everyone grows by becoming friends. My Village space is committed to relationships and “unplugging” from the world in order to learn more from each other.
Search Institutions Asset Framework offers guidance for building healthy communities. This work is part of the heart of My Village Library. Everyone brings their gifts, talents and interests to share.
Students today thrive on relationships with adults that care about them. Mentors build relationships, instill soft skills and help with self confidence. Reading is a priority while also engaging in cooperative hands-on projects that incorporate both math and reading. All activities are intentional, even games to excite learning and participation.
There is no pressure to “teach” or “tutor” – just engage, have fun and believe!
All volunteers are trained. Volunteer mentors and students work in small group settings in an open concept space at The Hub House. No one is ever alone. Everyone is loved.
